Why i can’t lose weight even though i exercise?

This is a question that goes through many people’s minds. This can be especially frustrating if you see other people around you losing weight and looking better than before while you have nothing to celebrate about in as far as weight loss is concerned. It can even make you feel as if you are wasting your time working out in the gym or jogging in the morning, not forgetting the sizeable gym fees that you pay.

The truth is, there are many possible reasons why people may exercise and still fail to see any change in their weight. Some may be avoided while others are absolutely not your fault hence you may have limited or no control on them. Here is a list of these causes.

There is an underlying issue

This can be possible for those with health conditions that may be preventing your body frombreaking down the fats. These conditions include hormonal disorder or a slow thyroid.

Fortunately, you can solve this through taking specialized medication that can accelerate the processing of melting away the excess fat in the body.

Your BMI is at the right measure

Sometime, you may fail to lose weight because your body fat percentage or BMI is in a healthy range. This means that you are only supposed to lose a very little body fat and your body is contented with the weight. In this case, there is no need for you to lose weight for any medical or healthy reason.

Nevertheless, you may want to shed some weight for other reasons such as gaining muscles and having an attractive physique. The downside of this is that it can push you to go the extreme in a bid to lose weight. This can be quite dangerous for your health and doctors discourage people from doing it.

You are eating more calories than you are able to burn or you use exercise as an excuse to eat more

This is a common problem among people who are trying to lose weight through exercising. Exercise is meant to burn the extra calories in our bodies. However, most people tend to miscalculate the calories they had burned and give in to temptation to overeat after a workout session. It is not unusual to hear someone say that they will eat more and then workout harder the next time they visit the gym or wherever they exercise from.

You should keep in mind that exercise can be effective if you use it to lose weight but not as an excuse to overindulge. It is also important to note that you cannot lose weight by exercising only; you have to watch what you eat as well. These two go hand in hand; hence, they are mutually exclusive and have to be done with equal effort and dedication. Also, like most things in the world, exercise requires discipline and commitment for success to be realized.

You are not eating healthy as required

As I have mentioned earlier, the weight loss equation has two variables; exercise and eating healthy. Therefore, you have to ensure that you eat a healthy diet every time you are eating. Most people forget to eat a balanced diet but only consider the sizes of the portions that they are eating. This could be one of the reasons why the sizes of their waistlines remain the same even after exercising regularly.

If you are one of those people who love eating the standard American diet that comprises of fast foods like burgers and fries, then you know what I am talking about. However, you may be one of those people who do not like fast foods but still you do not eat healthy.

We all like to think that we are eating right and dismiss the need to seeking a nutritionist’s advice. However, maybe it is time that you did a total overhaul of your diet in order to start seeing positive results in your weight loss endeavors.

Your eating habits may also be a problem because you could be eating too late which can hinder the body from burning the body at the appropriate time. You may also not be drinking the right amount of water which can slow the metabolism rate.

Your exercising is inconsistent

You have to be consistent for your exercising efforts to show positive results. Therefore, a little lapse in your exercising routine can make you gain back all the weight that you had struggled to lose within a few days.

Unfortunately, it is human nature to feel discouraged after exercising religiously for and eating healthy for a short time without observing any remarkable loss in weight.

You are doing the wrong types of exercise

This may mainly happen if you lack the right information about the right kind of exercise to use for a particular purpose. You may end up being confused as to which kind of exercise to do for you to lose weight due to all the information floating around.

For instance, you may be told that strength training, or bone strengthening exercise will help you lose weight which is not the case. Cardio is the best exercise that can assist you to lose excess weight.

Stress

Research shows that stress is one of the causes of weight gain especially among women. Stress upsurges cortisol hormone that increases appetite and also increases the production of neuropeptide Y by the brain which increases carbohydrates craving. Cortisol also reduces acid in the stomach hence it interferes with digestion. Stress may also cause fat to be stored in the abdominal area where it is hard to melt off.
