Stubborn hyperpigmentation is one of the things that bother most of us, as we get older. Even if you try your utmost best to keep your skin healthy, past sun damage or medications can leave marks on the skin in the form of age spots, dark patches and old scars. Many people become desperate as this sort of discoloration can be particularly resistant to treatment.

Some of you may have turned to different treatments with hydroquinone. This does in fact lighten the skin, but also increases sensitivity to sun damage, leading to more dark spots as the years go by and can accelerate the look of aging. The cause of hyperpigmentation

The dark spots which you have on your face are caused by an increase in melanin production. This is the natural pigment of your skin and is responsible for your skin, hair and eye colour. If your body creates too much of it, it causes dark splotches and spots.

Any type of Medications, hormones and sun damage can all increase melanin and result in darker skin. Vitamin C

Lemon juice

Water

Drink lot of water, as it is responsible for cleansing the skin from the inside out and preventing wrinkles. It will keep your skin well hydrated, in addition, it will let your skin looking plump and fresh. Try to drink as much fluid as you can during the day, including water. Water should by your primary drink, substituting it for sugary drinks or alcohol. Sodas and alcohol can affect your skin in a very negative way.

Sunscreen and sunbeds

If you really want to take care of your skin, protect yourself by using a minimum SPF15 on a daily basis. Try to avoid tanning beds and laying in the sun for hours whenever possible, as these are incredibly dangerous due to their carcinogenic properties. Even on cloudy day’s outside, apply sunscreen, as 80% of the sun’s radiation penetrates cloud cover, meaning you can still receive sun damage when it’s cloudy and rainy.

Exercise

Believe it or not, but a good workout does not only affect your size and weight, but it also helps to generate new skin cells which keeps your complexion even and young. Focus on a cardio type of exercise. Be sure to wash your face afterwards to keep oil and dirt from getting trapped in your pores and causing your skin to break out.

Eating habits

Be sure to eat plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables. Foods such as blueberries and salmon are high in antioxidants and also great for evening out your complexion. The fresher the foods which you consume, the happier your skin will be.
